For a while now, I have been reading up on a Wii game called EA Sports Active. It has been defined by many sources as being the definitive workout game for the Wii that actually produces results. It uses a combination of several exercises involving a resistance band and a leg strap. As many of my friends know, I was “kicked out” of the gym I was attending last year so I have been looking for an alternative way to get exercise at home.Last night, I got a wild hair and went to my local Target store and picked up a copy. I got home and tossed it in. Once you’ve set up your fitness profile with the system, you are asked what kind of exercise plan you want to perform, the main being the 30-day challenge. The 30-day challenge sets you up with a personalized schedule of twenty 25-minute workouts over the course of 30 days (every few days it gives you a rest day). I performed my first workout last night and DAMN! I was not expecting something like this to be so intense. By the end of my first workout, I was sweating like mad and sore all over (especially my calves and thighs which is what the first workout focused on).

I am scheduled for another workout tonight so I want to start keeping track of my progress on here. I will be taking my “before” picture this evening as I forgot to last night and nothing really changed appearance wise. I did, however move from 175 lbs to 174 (probably from sweating out half my body’s water ). Stay tuned for more on this as I progress over the next few weeks.

So you may have noticed that I added a counter on the sidebar to the right that is counting up from the last time I had a soda. This is because I recently completely gave up drinking all forms of soda. I used to be a complete soda junky, drinking several cans or bottle every day, and over the last semester break I gained a little over 5 pounds (keep in mind that this only took about a week and a half). In an effort to treat myself better and lose a few pounds, I decided to drop all forms of the sugary acid. As a result, I have not only reached my target weight, but have also surpassed it.

This kind of deal is fairly common. I have known many people who have given up soda, and have even attempted to do it myself before. What makes this time different? The fact that the world now knows via the counter on this site. Help me help myself by constantly reminding me that I can’t let that counter reset, no matter how tempting that Pepsi may be. Hopefully, that counter will always be counting up and my weight will always remain within healthy limits.

Next stop, getting fit…

I will definitely be picking one of these up when they hit stores on the 24th. The only question I have now is should I pre-order for delivery or do an in-store reservation?

A friend of mine just shared a quote with me that I thought I would share with all of you. It speaks out to a situation I’m going through right now.

Lost love is still love. You can’t see their smile or bring them food or tousle their hair or move them around a dance floor. But when those senses weaken, another heightens. Memory. Memory becomes your partner. You nurture it. You hold it. You dance with it. -Mitch Albom

With Todays announcement of Apple’s WWDC 2010 came some interesting fears: what is to come of Mac OS X. The focus of the conference this year is the iPhone OS and its collection of apps. This years design awards are for iPhone apps and products only, and it appears that the mother OS has taken a back seat. And you know what? It has.

But not to fear my friends, for it is simply the year of iPhone OS! I know what you’re thinking: wasn’t that 2007/08/09? Yes, in a way. I would say that 2007 was more the year of the iPhone itself. At this point, the OS didn’t even have a name. It was just referred to as “Mobile OS X” (which in this day and age where two of the three devices utilizing it are not iPhone, that seems like a more fitting name) and it kept that moniker until the time that iPhone OS 2 came around.

The year 2008 was the year of the touch… iPod touch, that is. With the newly introduced ability to create iPhone apps, the touch started to take on a huge role in the gaming and mobile computing industry, and it’s success probably convinced Steve Jobs that the iPad could be an acclaimed product.

From that point on, the updates kept flowing like Snow Leopard. iPhone OS 3 was pretty much just a maintenance release, if you think about it. It introduced a lot of features that the general public was asking for rather than greatly innovative things that change the industry. What became revolutionary was the scalability of the OS. In three years, there are now three major devices taking advantage of the iPhone OS, each in its own way. And because it has grown to a respected, major operating system, that makes this year its year.

The iPhone OS has grown into something very large and important. You can hardly release a desktop app or web app or do any kind of promotion without releasing an iPhone app to go with it. I can’t tell you how many times I have thought “Wow, how can there not be an iPhone app to go along with XYZ!?” It deserves to hold to show this year.

As for Mac OS X? It’s not going anywhere. Lets face it, even with multitasking and such, the iPhone OS is not powerful enough to replace your entire life (yet). I remember this happening a few years back during 2004. The Mac had already made a strong comeback with the iMac, PowerBook and PowerMac G5, but the new up-and-coming star was the iPod. Every event, it was iPod this and iPod Mini that, and in your face iPod nano. The Mac itself took a back seat for nearly a year, receiving only minor bumps every few months while the iPod flourished. Once Apple was satisfied with market share of their musical baby, focus returned to the Mac and its OS, and we continued on happily for a time.

There will always be ups and downs with product lines. The iPhone OS is growing, and may very well lay the groundwork for the next major OS X update. Apple and the world as a whole are learning a lot from this, so let it have it’s time. Give out the design awards, and bring on multitasking. The OS X developer team will be back after a brief vacation with Mac OS X 10.7 Smellycat.
